AIG Ogunsakin Promises To End Kidnapping In South-South Soon

Nigeria Police

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 6 , AIG Tunde Ogunsakin, has reiterated his commitment to put a permanent end to kidnapping in the South-South zone of Nigeria.

He stated that the police and other security agencies in the zone have identified kidnapping as one of the major criminal activities in the area and are ready to put an end to the vice very soon.

Ogunsakin made this known during his courtesy visit to the palace of the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V. He assured the Obong of Calabar that the menace of kidnapping in Calabar south area in Cross River State will also fizzle out soon.

Prior to the 2015 general election, there were reported cases of politically motivated kidnappings in the zone and elsewhere in the country.

The AIG, a renowned advocate of community policing, used the visit to strengthen the relationship between the police and the traditional institutions in Cross River State.

The police boss   expressed his love for Calabar, stating how nostalgic he felt on returning to Calabar as it was the very first place he was posted to serve by the Nigeria Police.

Ogunsakin, who applauded the state’s peaceful nature but frowned at the rising crime rate particularly in Calabar South, urged the police bosses in the area to stem the rising tide of crime.

He however, intimated His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon and his Council of Chiefs   of the strategy being employed by the command in addressing the spate of kidnapping and other crimes in that part of the state, assuring that an end was imminent.

Expressing joy over the visit, the Obong urged the AIG not to relent in the fight against crime.
