The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stated that its Osun / Oyo Command generated over N3billion into the covers of the Federal Government within the past three months.
The Area Comptroller, Mohammed Bawa, disclosed this yesterdayshortly after meeting with representatives of Motor Dealers Association, Osun State chapter at Custom headquarters in Osogbo.
He added that the stated command figure generated between March this year and May stood at #3,651,706,440.44.
He also stated that the anti-smuggling numbers of seizures between March and May stood at #113,450,176.00 despite the fact that the two states under his command have no sea port.
According to him, apart from sensitising the public on the need for due process in their transactions to avoid friction, the command had put in place effective measures to control borders within the area command.
The comptroller, who pledged full commitment to restore sanity to the area, contended that all efforts will be geared towards development of the command in the area of safety, staff welfare and provision of adequate weapons for the officers and men of the command.
Speaking on the security of the officers and men of the command, the comptroller noted that adequate arrangement had been put in place by the authority to ensure safety of officers during their operations along borders.
Bawa, who sought for the support of association of motor dealers in the area, urged them to always follow due process to avoid embarrassment from the officers at the borders .
