
Determined to rid the state of incessant communal clashes and killings, Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed plans to review the 1976 local government laws which gave the traditional rulers powers to maintain peace and security in their respective domains.
The governor who disclosed this in a day long parley with traditional rulers from across the 23 local government areas on insecurity, said the aim is to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers to oversee the security of lives and property in their locality.
Governor El-Rufai said traditional institutions were important in the management of welfare and security in the country, but lamented that their roles have been usurped by the local government authorities.
Gbagyi Lament Marginalisation
The Gbagyi speaking people in Kaduna State yesterday told the state governor to end the years of marginalisation against their people since the return of democracy in 1999. The people, under the aegis of Gbagyi Youths Progressive Union in an open letter to the governor, said they have confidence that Governor El-Rufai will govern with justice and equity, hence the need to draw his attention to the plight of the people.
Gov receives commendation from Southern Kaduna
Southern Kaduna group, Kabilu Forum, has commended Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai for so far appointing men and women of integrity into political offices regardless of tribe, religion, ethnicity and political affiliation.
According to the forum, it has watched with keen interest how the governor has demonstrated true justice, equity and fair play. in the manner he has governed the state so far including the appointments, and urged him to sustain it.
