Aso Villa authorities reject 253 DSS officials

Aso Villa authorities reject 253 DSS officials

Apparently still not sure of the shape security around President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will take in the coming days, authorities of the Presidential Villa, Abuja have rejected about 253 officials of the Department of State Services recently transferred to the villa.

Investigations by one of our correspondents on Wednesday revealed that the affected security operatives were deployed from different state commands of the DSS across the country.

Comments

Phumie: The role played by the DSS guys in the previous administration was terrible. It will take time before this administration trusts them. The leadership of the Service should have known this before gambling with unnecessary posting.

Nwa _ Africa: All the administration needs to do to rebuild the Service is to remove its heads. The middle-level and junior officers have no choice but to follow the direction of its new leadership.

Rook: What a move! Does the DSS know these 253 people and their true capability before engaging in random posting? In America, heads of the secret services or Capitol Police normally draw a list of trusted guys needed for a sensitive assignment of this nature. You don’t use random or guess work to select personnel to man a presidential villa.

Again, does the DSS even have an idea of Aso Rock’s choice of security details? What if the President and his vice have a different view about this? Above all, why are we reading about this in newspapers? Considering the volatility of the security situation in the country, must this be made public? Can’t they learn from the Nigerian Army who produced an ADC for the President without anyone knowing about the process? The DSS boss and the spokesperson need to be sacked for this.

Objectivity2015: What role did they play that they were not supposed to? Did we expect the DSS to work with and report to Buhari while Goodluck Jonathan was still the President and Commander-in-Chief just to demonstrate its neutrality? Why are some people talking as if they have no idea about the job of the DSS?

Seyi: Why do we need 253 DSS officers in Aso Rock? To protect how many people? Public office holders should know that they are to serve the masses and not the other way round. Why should over 250 personnel of the Service be posted to Aso Rock alone when other security organisations will also be represented there? This is madness, and it must be checked.

Candosky: Watch out for the coming Tsunami in some of these organisations. Buhari is not speaking, but his silence should send signals that something imminent is about to happen in the civil service. Nigerians will wake up soon to realise that Buhari is in control. And he will not be held back by anyone in the name of a party leader. Those days are over and things will begin to take shape pretty soon.

Cicero: I don’t know anybody who will surrender his personal safety and security to people who had been loyal to another group for 16 years without a thorough, careful screening. This is no child’s play or a home video, but a real game of power.

DTaj: They behaved irresponsibly during the campaigns; they were clearly partisan. For civil servants to have behaved that way during an election was the height of impunity and indiscretion. Didn’t they consider their careers? Even its leadership was deeply involved in the PDP activities.

IBM EDDY: It is true that the system needs cleansing. In Asia, a president almost lost his life in a similar circumstance. I believe Buhari will do what Chief Olusegun Obasanjo did when he came to power in 1999. Ease them out of service, not a transfer please. But due process should be followed.

Christobel2010: Secret service personnel who are deployed for sensitive assignments are thoroughly screamed to ascertain their state of mind and overall fitness. I suggest those handling the President’s protective duties meet him to know his expectation, and then build his security around that.
