Adebayo, Odumakin hail Mimiko’s free school shuttle
Former military Governor of the old Western Region, Major-Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (retd.) and the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, the Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, on Friday commended the Governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko for his free school shuttle for pupils in the state.
They said his achievements were an obvious display of competence as an administrator and correct interpretation of the June 12 ideals.
A statement on Friday by the state commissioner for information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade,said they spoke at a lecture organised to mark the third anniversary of the state’s Free School Shuttle Scheme and the 22nd anniversary of the June 12, 1993 election.
Adebayo commended the governor for doing a yeomen’s job, saying he deserved the praise of everyone.
“I was once a governor, Mimiko is doing great. We discuss this behind him always that he is doing a good job and deserves praise. I am thanking him on your behalf for the good job,” he added.
Odumakin, on his part, observed that even though other states in the South-West had events to mark the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election, the one held in Ondo state had more relevance to the ideals of governance as envisioned by the late Abiola.
He pointed out that there had been different interpretations of June 12, adding that in most states where holiday had been declared to mark the day, emphasis was only placed on the politics of the phenomenon instead of the ‘Farewell to Poverty” content of June 12.
Responding, Mimiko expressed joy that the shuttle scheme had been successful since it started about three years ago, as he said it had alleviated the transportation burden of the teeming school children in the state. He added that the scheme, which kicked off with 39 buses in 2012, now has 90 and that it would soon spread across the state.
