Ganduje Commissions Tamburawa Power Substation

Kano-Deputy-Ggovernor-Dr.-Ganduje

Kano State governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday commissioned the Tamburawa Power Injection Substation constructed by the state government at the cost of N140 million.

The project, which was supervised by PHCN, now Kano Electricity Distribution Company, is the government’s intervention towards improvement of power supply to Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant.

Commissioning the project, Governor Ganduje noted that intermittent power supply remains a challenge facing water supply in Kano, explaining that the Tamburawa Water Treatment plant was forced to operate on generators because of poor power supply from the Kumbotso transmission station.

This, he said, did not prove to be a sustainable answer to the smooth running of the plant as the cost of fueling and maintaining the generators was highly expensive, leading the government to look for a better option.

“The ultimate goal of our government is to ensure 24 hour supply for all our water treatment plants and I hope that this will be attained as soon as the state Independent Power Project is completed”, Governor Ganduje asserted.

The governor maintained that the cardinal desire of his administration is to ensure adequate supply of potable water for all categories of consumers, promising to do all within his ability and available resources to attain the objective.

He, therefore, called on water consumers in Kano lend their support by paying their water bills regularly, even has he enjoined employees of the state Water Board to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities put in place by the government for sustainable water supply.

In his remarks, the Acting Managing Director of the State Water Board, Alhaji Auwalu Muahmmad Galadanchi assured that his agency would ensure that with the stability of power at Tamburawa, water supply to the people of metropolitan Kano is highly improved.
