Fire service boss tasks EMSL on standards
The Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Mr. Anebe Joseph, has called on the Electricity Management Services Limited to take seriously the enforcement of technical standards and regulation in the industry to forestall avoidable electrical fire incidences in the country.
He cautioned that quacks should not be allowed to generate power or operate in the power industry, adding that testing and certification of all electrical installations in the country should be monitored.
Speaking while receiving the management of EMSL at the Fire Service headquarters during the week, Joseph charged the team to investigate electrical fire on time and make their findings public.
Responding, the Managing Director, EMSL, Mr. Peter Ewesor, said the importance of the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the two agencies.
He said a good relationship and sustained collaboration based on information sharing between the two agencies would help in electrical fire prevention and investigations. This he said would lead to accurate and reliable statistical records of electrical fire disasters and possible ways of averting future occurrences.
A statement on Friday by the General Manager, Public Affairs, EMSL, Uche Aneke, quoted Ewesor as saying, “Our working together will definitely lead to a more robust fire prevention and overall safety of lives and properties as well as generate statistics on fire prevention and protection that are believable and credible.”
