Fidelity Bank links workers’ physical fitness to productivity

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, says the bank will continue to commit resources to the physical fitness of its staff as a means of achieving organisational objectives.

He said the lender introduced a national physical fitness programme last year to ensure that its employees were always in the best frame of mind to achieve excellence in the workplace.

Okonkwo spoke in Lagos at the second edition of the bank’s staff fitness programme tagged ‘Bond2fit’, a statement by the bank on Wednesday said.

The Fidelity Bank boss said it was in the best interest of the organisation that its staff, irrespective of their level, remained healthy, while maintaining that there was a direct link between productivity and employees’ physical and mental fitness.

He said “We work hard, we will also like to play hard because it’s not every time we will be taking deposit or giving out loans. We take off time once in a while to keep fit and make sure that our workforce remains healthy.

“But importantly, it is an opportunity for the staff to bond. Irrespective of the level in the bank, all the staff members did the run. It’s just a good networking and bonding experience for our staff.”

He said the fitness programme was usually held concurrently nationwide.

“If you are not fit, you cannot be as productive. It’s important these days, every day you hear people drop off and die. If you do keep fit and remain healthy, you stand a better chance than somebody who eats all the wrong things and does not keep fit at all,” he added.
